Peace Sonnet Chain #7: Tamar Yoseloff

She perches on a warhead that hatches only song,
like the women thrusting flowers into soldiers’ guns
a distant war ago. But this is art, and in the world
of statecraft who does she think she is to dictate
what generals must do? Just some artist telling them
not to wage their wars. And now she’s got the nerve
to shut the doors, to refuse to show her work
on motherhood while men give birth to bombs.
Her namesake trekked across a desert to prove
her faith; she is steadfast in the belief that art
can save the world. How naive! But her demand
for peace has made the news and when she says
I prefer to raise my voice with those I stand with
in their scream, we hear all our voices raised.
