And so it is that we long
that we can never return to –
in the hills of this Welsh word
where there’s absence and the remains
of a stile over an ancient wall
or a what-we-have-forgotten-in-love
about others and not about ourselves.
There are other words in other tongues
we could have taken for this numbness
for what was never sure: tizita,
saudade, morriña, dor.
