Neu! Boots Are Made For Walking DAY THIRTY-SIX – Maurice Devitt

Boris Johnson’s Briefcase

The papers that slept
in his briefcase last night
shuffle nervously
at his step on the stair.

Still bleary-eyed
from late-night corrections,
they have no taste
for the prawn in his lunch-box

and, while some may survive
this week’s cull,
they have been here before
and know that by next week

the new definition for truth
will make every page redundant.

In 2016 Maurice Devitt was selected for the Poetry Ireland Introductions Series and shortlisted for the Listowel Poetry Collection Competition. He was also winner of the Trocaire/Poetry Ireland Competition in 2015. He has had poems published in journals in Ireland, England, Scotland, the US, Mexico, Romania, India and Australia.
