Neu!Boots DAY THIRTY-SEVEN – Gillian Mellor

W/C 20/06/2016

This was the week of the full strawberry moon
the first on summer solstice for 70 years.

This was the week Casey John was born,
mother and son looked after by the National Health.

This was the week Luke went to Edinburgh with school,
met his MSP, but was kept awake by heat and noise.

This was the week Jane asked why the low waged
deserved more free childcare than her.

This was the week Linda worked the whole day
for a corporate without payment just so she got straight.

This was the week things began to get darker.

Gillian Mellor now lives in Moffat and co-owns the Moffat Bookshop. She has had work published in Southlight, the Fankle and online.
