DAY TWO – Andrew Fentham

Ibiza

Phoenicians called it Ibossim
after Bes, a god
of dance and music,
amazed to find no snakes
or venomous creatures there.

Ed has gone to Ibiza
to get away from it all,
his head still buzzing,
the bellwethers tolling
still now in his ears.

Ed has gone to Ibiza
red-faced, his party
raving at the result
on their blue Monday,
to get away from it all.

Ed has gone to Ibiza
to think about the 90s
and utopias, to find
some happy Monday
out shaking a maraca.

Andrew Fentham’s poems and translations have appeared in magazines in the UK, Ireland, France and Hungary. ‘Project’, a response to the work of Victor Pasmore, appeared at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne in May 2015.
